Crocus tommasinianus of boerenkrokus

Crocus tommasinianus of boerenkrokus, -genoemd naar de botanicus Tommasini-  die voor de vorst al zo mooi bovengronds waren verschenen, zijn nu opnieuw uitgelopen.
De oude bloemen hebben de koude niet overleeft en liggen nu slap, slijmerig op de grond te vergaan.
Kort na het smelten van de sneeuw komt de bloei tot stand.
Anders dan bij de bonte crocus (Crocus vernus) bloeit deze stervormig open met een mooi oranje hartje.
De plant is trouw en kan zich flink gaan uitbreiden. Van de boerenkrokus stammen de andere soorten af.

Crocus tommasinianus-named after the botanist-Tommasini that so beautiful had appeared above ground, before the cold began, are now re-sprouted.
The old flowers did not survive the frost, and now lie limp, slimy on the ground.
Shortly after the snowmelt, the plant comes to bloom.
Unlike the Crocus vernus, this kind blooms star-shaped and opens with a beautiful orange heart.
The plant  can significantly expand. This crocus is the ancester of all the other crocusses.
