Verbascum thapsus (koningskaars)

Toorts is op dit moment, één van de vele bloeiende planten in de tuin. Op hun, soms meer dan manshoge stelen, vallen ze goed op.

Vooral in het veld tussen de achterste bijenkasten en de keukenkruidentuin, zijn ze beeldbepalend.

De koningskaars  (Verbascum thapsus) en de iets kleinere zwarte toorts ( Verbascum nigrum), met mooie paarse meeldraden tegen licht gele bloemen, ook veel in de tuin, zijn beide medisch inzetbaar tegen vele kwalen. Zelfs slapeloosheid zou ermee te bestrijden zijn. Voor gebruik tegen kwalen, kan men van de hele plant een aftreksel maken, maar het vocht moet voor inname gezeefd worden door een doek, vanwege de beharing van de plant.

Als Bijenplant, maakt de toorts zich zeer verdienstelijk. Ze staan daar in de tuin, vlak voor de bijenkasten dan ook op een strategische plek en dat is te zien. Bijen vliegen af en aan op de prachtige bloemen. Zichtbaar overladen met oranje stuifmeelkorfjes aan hun pootjes en zeker ook met, maagjes vol nectar, keren ze terug naar de kasten.

Common mullein is currently one of the many flowering plants in the garden. On their own, sometimes more than mans hight-steal, they are marked.

Especially in the field between the rear hives and the kitchen herb garden, they are iconic.

The Great or Common mullein (Verbascum thapsus) and the slightly smaller dark mullein (Verbascum nigrum), with beautiful purple stamens from light yellow flowers, both medical deployed against many ailments. Even insomnia would fight with it. For use against ailments, one can make a decoction of the whole plant, but it must be   sieved through a cloth, because of the hair of the plant.

If Bees Plant, the torch makes himself very useful. They stand there in the garden, just in front of the hives therefore in a strategic place and it shows. Bees flying in and out of the beautiful flowers. Visible overloaded with orange stuifmeelkorfjes to their feet and also with, stomachs full of nectar, they return to the cabinets.
