Coenagrion waterjuffers / libelles

Above the pond to admire currently azure damselfly (Coenagrion puella) and with a little luck the striking fire red dragonfly (Pyrrhosoma nymphula). Damselflies are slim, tiny insects that are related to dragonflies. They can be distinguished among others by the two pairs of wings, they wear at rest along the body and dragonflies rest with wings spread.  A dragonfly or damselfly lives at this stage about a month, to procreate. The mating ritual is nice to see. First there is a tandem flight, because the male grasps the female in her neck. Then they make when mating, a heart shape.
Together they dive in the water. The damselflies lay their eggs between the stems of plants, or even in the holes, which they have drilled in the stems. The eggs turn into nymphs and live at least one year between the plants. Fully grown, they crawl up against the stems above the water surface. Here they molt and spread their wings in order to dry. A very vulnerable time. They have striking colors making them visible to predators. There is also a danger that the wings become tangled If so, they are no longer able, ever  to fly

Achillea millefolium (duizendblad)

Duizendblad (Achillea millefolium) .
Dus is de plant o.a. wond helend.

Achillea millefolum (common yarrow), owes its name to the many cuts of elongated leaves, causing the blade to the eye disintegrates into dozens of small leaves.
The flowers are of a reluctant white color scheme. White petals at the edge and beige flower rays in the middle.
The color composition is not abundant but very nice. It is reminiscent of the Achillea ptarmica (Sneezewort), but this has much larger flowers.
Yarrow was as a medicinal herb already known in antiquity.
Well known is the legend of the Greek hero Achilles, who would have successfully bandaged a wounded king on the battlefield. Thus, the plant is wound healing.
The plant is also forgotten vegetable. It is known that the herb in the 17th century was already prepared like spinach.

The flowers are visited by butterflies, wild bees and honeybees.

Verbascum thapsus (koningskaars)

( Verbascum nigrum).
Common mullein is currently one of the many flowering plants in the garden. On their own, sometimes more than mans hight-steal, they are marked.
Especially in the field between the rear hives and the kitchen herb garden, they are iconic.
The Great or Common mullein (Verbascum thapsus) and the slightly smaller dark mullein (Verbascum nigrum), with beautiful purple stamens from light yellow flowers, both medical deployed against many ailments. Even insomnia would fight with it. For use against ailments, one can make a decoction of the whole plant, but it must be   sieved through a cloth, because of the hair of the plant.

If Bees Plant, the torch makes himself very useful. They stand there in the garden, just in front of the hives therefore in a strategic place and it shows. Bees flying in and out of the beautiful flowers. Visible overloaded with orange stuifmeelkorfjes to their feet and also with, stomachs full of nectar, they return to the cabinets.
